Precolumbian creation myths: One of the most fundamental works of Precolumbian literature is the Popol-Vuh, the story of creation, according to the myths of Central America indian tribes. Its existence is due to tha labor of a paulist priest, Francisco Jimenez, who copied the Quiche original, learned the laguage and made the translation. In adition to its great poetical beauty, the Popol-Vuh (or Book of the commons) gives much information about those precoluman civilizations.
