Thrive with a Hybrid Workplace delivers expert guidance to maximize growth and minimize risk in a hybrid workplace.

In this books, Julie Kantor, a business psychologist, and Felice Ekelman, an employment attorney, deliver expert guidance to maximize growth and minimize risk in a hybrid workplace. With hybrid work, leaders need to ensure that employees are engaged, remote work is productive, and hybrid teams are collaborating, all within legal guidelines.

A hybrid workplace requires organizations and leaders to address issues that can be overlooked or avoided in a full-time in-office work arrangement. Leadership by 'walking down the hall' is no longer enough. Leadership is now to be approached with intentionality. Kantor and Ekelman identify the many challenges that require intentionality including new issues to become aware of and old issues that will need to be addressed differently in the hybrid workplace. This will begin with organizations defining a flexible approach to remote work that aligns with values and business needs. Then leaders need to be empowered to make decisions regarding how, where, and when work is done. These decisions include and impact achieving success, facilitating engagement, attracting, and retaining talent, clarifying roles and responsibilities, maximizing equity, minimizing bias, and establishing a culture in which employees can thrive.

For those companies who seek to be known as a "best in class" employer, Thrive is a must-read for leadership. Thrive is a resource leaders will turn to again and again for encouragement and advice.

Authors Ekelman and Kantor address the need for leaders to consider what a hybrid workplace means for their unique organization. From deep examination of what different types of work demand for employee effectiveness and productivity to identifying criteria for exceptions and possible legal ramifications, leaders are provided with concrete guidance. For example, attention is paid to the need for physical office space and related considerations, such as whether everyone will be in the office for set days, or if days in office may vary and a smaller space is sufficient. Diving more deeply into that smaller-space example, how will employees be assured that a space is available for them whenever they are in the office? This level of guidance through the challenges of defining hybrid work will result in solid outcomes and can serve as a model for decision making in other areas as well. A valuable resource for any organization struggling with the challenges of finding balance between employee and organizational needs, Thrive with a Hybrid Workplace will find an audience in both public-library and business-school collections.

Few disagree that hybrid work is here to stay--hybrid work schedules in addition to hybrid work settings. Business psychologist and executive coach Kantor and employment attorney Ekelman embrace this notion, offering strategies and action steps to help business leaders and managers navigate the hybrid workplace. They outline key components of successful policies, including intentionality, trust, DEI mindfulness, and compliance. VERDICT Written to help leaders draft and iterate hybrid workplace policies that promote employee satisfaction, productivity, and retention.
