Successful but shy, Seattle art dealer Mattie Sharpe fell hard for handsome, outspoken, professional adventurer Hugh Abbott. When he broke her heart and returned to his South Sea island home, Mattie vowed she'd only meet him again over her—or better, his—dead body.

When they do meet again, it's over someone else's dead body—and now they're running for their lives through a tropical paradise. Hugh's talking fast to make up for his mistake. Mattie's not listening . . . until his gentle touch ignites a white-hot fusion, and she gives in. But Hugh's past is catching up with them, and Mattie must stake her very survival on the man she loves—the only man who ever let her down!
If there is a silver lining to a broken heart, Mattie's about to discover it—when love storms back into her life and sweeps her off her feet!

An action-packed plot and a charming heroine who sports her share of modern neuroses may cajole readers into forgiving Krentz ( The Golden Chance ) for a happy ending that's a real clunkerstet/rl : the heroine must give up her home and career so that the hero can keep the life he has built for himself. When Seattle art dealer Mattie Sharpe fell for Hugh Abbott, who occasionally serves as a security advisor for her aunt's company, she decided to risk all for love and begged him to marry her. Hugh caught the next plane out of Seattle. Nearly a year later, on a trip to purchase an antique sword, Mattie is trapped on a tiny Pacific island during a coup. Who appears to rescue her but Hugh, now a wiser man, who knows that in refusing Mattie he tossed aside a gem. However, convincing Mattie of this, and luring her away from her successful career to his island home, is another matter--one complicated by some dangerous unfinished business from Hugh's shadowy past and Mattie's need to affirm her own self-worth as a result of being the only non-artistic member of a highly gifted family.
